What changes the total
- Size and heater. Bigger rooms often come with bigger heaters. Almost Heaven's 6-person Allegheny cabin starts with an 8 kW heater; its 2-person Salem barrel starts at 6 kW. Redwood says a 6 kW heater needs a 30A breaker and an 8 kW heater a 40A breaker.
- Running cost. An 8 kW heater uses about a third more electricity than a 6 kW one over the same session. Harvia puts a 6 kW heater at 7–9 kWh for an hour of heating plus an hour of use, and an 8 kW at 9–13 kWh (Harvia).
- Foundation and roof. Outdoor saunas need a level base. Some brands sell roof kits separately (Redwood lists a beveled roof kit for its 6 ft barrel at $599).
- Distance to the panel. Outdoor saunas often sit farther from the house, so the 240V run can cost more (RenovCost).
Safety first. Saunas and cold plunges put real stress on your heart and circulation. If you have a heart condition, high or low blood pressure, are pregnant, or take medication, talk to your doctor before you use one. We don’t make health claims. This site covers costs only.
